2 vaccination cases reported

The Department of Health today announced that it received two reports from the Hospital Authority of a death and a critical case with suspected serious adverse events following COVID-19 vaccination.   One of the cases involves a 70-year-old woman who had a history of hypertension and osteoarthritis of the knee.   According to information provided by the deceased’s family member, she received the COVID-19 vaccination at Kowloon Bay Sports Centre Community Vaccination Centre on March 2.    She had shortness of breath this morning and collapsed at home at noon. She was admitted to Kwong Wah Hospital but did not respond to resuscitation and passed away this afternoon.   Another case involves a 67-year-old man who has a history of diabetes, hypertension and hyperlipidemia. He was vaccinated at a private clinic on March 2.   He suddenly collapsed at MTR Mong Kok Station at noon and was admitted to Kwong Wah Hospital. The preliminary diagnosis was acute coronary syndrome and he is now in a critical condition.   The department said it immediately contacted the authority to obtain more information for investigation and assessment.   It will obtain preliminary autopsy findings for the first case and provide all available information to the Expert Committee on Clinical Events Assessment Following COVID-19 Immunisation for causality assessment as soon as possible.
