8 COVID-19 cases detected

The Centre for Health Protection (CHP) today said it is investigating eight additional COVID-19 cases, one of which is locally transmitted with an unknown source of infection.   The local case involves a 22-year-old male Baptist University student who lives in Block 7 of Fullview Garden in Chai Wan. He developed symptoms on March 25 and underwent a COVID-19 test the next day.   The patient attended school on March 18 and 22, during which he visited three of the university’s buildings. The CHP is requiring those who had been present at these buildings to get tested.   Apart from these three buildings, 27 buildings with sewage samples that have tested positive for the virus are now covered by compulsory testing notices.   The notices also include two schools where outbreaks of upper respiratory tract infection, with symptoms similar to those of COVID-19, were detected.   The Government will set up a mobile specimen collection station at Baptist University Road Campus to provide virus testing for university staff, students and visitors subject to compulsory testing.   Regarding the seven imported cases, five are from the Philippines, one is from the US and one is from Turkey.   For information and health advice on COVID-19, visit the Government's dedicated webpage.
