Social distancing to be eased

(To watch the full media session with sign language interpretation, click here.)   The Government today announced the relaxation of social distancing measures with the "vaccine bubble" as the basis, which will take effect from April 29 to May 12.   Announcing the relaxed measures at a media session this afternoon, Secretary for Food & Health Prof Sophia Chan said six types of premises which are currently required to be closed, including bars or pubs, clubs or nightclubs, bathhouses, party rooms, karaoke establishments and mahjong-tin kau premises can resume operation if they can fulfil the requirements under the "vaccine bubble".   On group gatherings, the number of people allowed in wedding ceremonies, shareholders' annual meetings of listed companies and religious activities will be increased if all participants aged 16 or above have received at least the first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.   Local tours with no more than 30 people including travel agent staff can also be held if the relevant staff have received their first vaccine dose.   Prof Chan explained that the relaxation of social distancing measures will be carried out in a gradual and progressive manner.   "The relaxation of social distancing measures that we are talking about must be a safe relaxation so that we can make everybody's life resume to its normality as far as possible while having the responsibility to protect the health of our public. Therefore, any relaxation would have to be gradual and progressive. At the same time, we are also monitoring the situation.   "Now that we have enough or adequate vaccines provided for the people in Hong Kong, therefore this 'vaccine bubble' is a very important public health measure so that we can have a safe relaxation and also mitigate the risk associated with the relaxation."

7.63m vaccine jabs administered

About 7,637,600 doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered to the public, with about 4,162,100 people receiving their first dose and around 3,475,600 getting their second dose.   Among those given the first dose of vaccines, about 1,527,800 people have received the Sinovac jab and about 2,634,300 people got the BioNTech one.   For the second dose, about 1,298,900 people have received the Sinovac vaccine, while about 2,176,700 people have been administered the BioNTech jab.   About 49,200 people received jabs under the COVID-19 Vaccination Programme today.   Around 5,800 people received their first dose of the Sinovac vaccine and around 9,200 people received their second dose.   For the BioNTech vaccine, about 16,200 people received their first dose and around 18,000 people got their second dose.   The overall percentage of people who received the Sinovac vaccine and the BioNTech one at community vaccination centres is about 96%.   As of 8pm, about 1,900 people book

Cantonese operas to be staged

The Golden Dragon Troupe will stage two Cantonese operas this month which were originally scheduled for last December.   The Butterfly Goblet performance will be staged at Tuen Mun Town Hall at 7.30pm on March 12 and at Ko Shan Theatre at 7.30pm on March 25.   Another performance, Story of a Sing-song Girl, will be shown at Tuen Mun Town Hall at 7.30pm on March 13.   The Golden Dragon Troupe's performances are presented by the Leisure & Cultural Services Department. Tickets are available at URBTIX.   Ticket holders of The Butterfly Goblet originally scheduled on December 15 at Ko Shan Theatre can keep their original tickets intact with stubs to attend the rescheduled performance on March 25. Some seats will be rearranged as a result.   Pre-performance and post-performance talks in Cantonese will be held at 7.30pm on March 3 and April 1 at the Cultural Centre.
