Library feedback channels expanded
The Leisure & Cultural Services Department today launched new channels for "Collection of Views on Library Collections" to enable people to express their views more easily about the book collections of the Hong Kong Public Libraries (HKPL).
Apart from explaining that the goal of the initiative is to further ensure the collections’ contents are appropriate, the department stressed that it also wants to make sure the books do not contain objectionable contents, such as those which exaggerate violence, pornography and vulgarism, violate the laws of Hong Kong or endanger national security.
Views can be expressed via a designated form or emailed to bookreport@lcsd.gov.hk. Paper forms are available at any branch libraries of the HKPL or downloaded here.
The information required for submission should include the title and relevant part of the library material such as page number and text paragraph.
The department pointed out that while public libraries will follow up in accordance with the information provided on the forms, including possibly removing relevant library materials from the shelves for review, no replies will be given for each opinion received.
The data collected will be dealt with strictly in accordance with the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance and will not be disclosed to any third parties, it added.
