Passenger jailed for CBD possession

An incoming passenger to Hong Kong has been sentenced at the West Kowloon Magistrates’ Courts to two months’ imprisonment for being in possession of cannabidiol (CBD) and other drugs.   The 32-year-old female passenger arrived in Hong Kong from the United States on March 29. During customs clearance, two bottles of personal care products containing what officers suspected to be CBD were found in her luggage.   Officers also seized about 2.2g of suspected ketamine, concealed in a glass container, and 10 syringes they suspected were intended for the injection of a dangerous drug. The woman was subsequently arrested.   The Government Laboratory later confirmed a total of about 5g of CBD was contained in the two bottles, while the other substance seized was indeed ketamine.   The woman was sentenced after being convicted on two counts of possession of a dangerous drug and one of possession of equipment intended for the injection of a dangerous drug, in contravention of the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance.   Customs welcomed the sentence, which marks the first time an offender has been convicted and sentenced to imprisonment since CBD was listed as a dangerous drug under the Ordinance on February 1.   Suspected drug trafficking activities should be reported online, via Customs' 24-hour hotline, on 2545 6182, or by email to its dedicated crime-reporting email account.

Testing compliance checks done

The Government today completed enforcement operations at Block 6 of Hanford Garden in Tuen Mun and Goldwin Heights at 2 Seymour Road in Mid-Levels, which were earlier included in compulsory testing notices.   The Civil Service Bureau conducted the Tuen Mun enforcement action from around 8.30am to 11.30am, while the Central & Western District Office carried out the Mid-Levels operation from around 8am to 11am.   Both actions were conducted together with Police and the Department of Health.   The Government arranged for staff to verify the testing certifications of people subject to compulsory testing at the buildings’ entrances and exits.   During the operations, the test records of about 200 people in Block 6 of Hanford Garden and about 430 people in Goldwin Heights were checked.   As a result, seven people in total were found to have violated the compulsory testing notice and were issued with a compulsory testing order.    A fixed penalty notice of $10,000 was also iss

1 COVID-19 death recorded

The Hospital Authority today said a 77-year-old male COVID-19 patient has passed away, taking the number of COVID-19 patients who died in public hospitals to 202.   The patient was admitted to the Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital on July 20 last year for isolation treatment.   His condition deteriorated and he was transferred to the hospital's intensive care unit on July 27.   After treatment, the patient's antibody test result for COVID-19 was positive and he was released from an isolation order by the Department of Health on August 28.   Due to underlying diseases, he continued to stay in the hospital and was then transferred to Grantham Hospital's Tuberculosis & Chest Medical Unit on March 22 for further treatment.   The patient's condition continued to deteriorate and he passed away this afternoon. http://dlvr.it/RxbJzj
