Young HK athletes lauded

To congratulate athletes representing the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region on their triumphant return from the 1st National Student (Youth) Games (NSYG), and express gratitude to their coaches and support teams, the Government today hosted a welcome home reception.

Secretary for Culture, Sports & Tourism Kevin Yeung officiated at the ceremony and presented certificates of commendation to athletes who gave outstanding performances at the NSYG.

The Hong Kong team achieved commendable results in the games, which were held last month in Nanning, in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. They brought home a total of 48 medals, spanning seven sports in the School Category and 27 in the Open Category. The medals comprised 10 golds, 15 silvers and 23 bronzes.

The NSYG, formed in a merger between the National Student Sports Games and the National Youth Games, aims to raise the level of competition and performance in youth sports, and to help identify potential elite athletes.

The Hong Kong SAR sent a delegation of 720 athletes to the 1st NYSG, the city’s largest to date in a national multisport event.
